Porsche 911
The Porsche 911 was originally called 901 – after its project number at Porsche – but the company changed this to Porsche 911 because fellow carmaker Peugeot had exclusive rights in France to car names formed by three numbers with a zero in the middle. Porsche did not want to sell the new model with another name in France so changed the name to Porsche 911.

The Porsche 911 was developed as a much more powerful, larger, more comfortable replacement for the Porsche 356, the company's first model.

The Porsche 911 is essentially a sporting evolution of the Volkswagen Beetle.

The Porsche 911 was launched to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963 and went on sale in 1964. Buyers now had a serious rival to the most sought-after Jaguar E Type.

Pronounced in German, neun elfer, meaning literally 911-er, it is famous the world over for its looks and performance. It is seen in films and in sports such as track racing and rallying. It is viewed as the most successful competition car ever.

There are a number of models of the Porsche 911: Porsche Carrera, Porsche Carrera S, Porsche Carrera Cabriolet, Porsche Carrera S Cabriolet, Porsche Carrera 4, Porsche Carrera 4S, Porsche Carrera 4S Cabriolet, Porsche Targa 4, Porsche Targa 4S, Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, Porsche 911 GT2, Porsche 911 GT3, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Classic Porsche models include Porsche 365, Porsche 912, Porsche 914, Porsche 924, Porsche 928, Porsche 944, Porsche 993, Porsche 996, and Porsche 997.

The two-door Porsche 911 comes as a 4-speed automatic or as a 5-speed manual. It has a rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. Engine size ranges from 2 litre to 3.3 litre.

The earliest editions of the 911 had a 130 PS (96 kW) six-cylinder engine, in the "boxer" configuration like the 356, air-cooled and rearmounted. The car had four seats although the rear seats were very small. The car is usually called a 2+2 rather than a four-seater (the 356 was also a 2+2).

We can also offer competitive rates on several other Porsche models. So if your Porsche model is not listed it may still be worth giving us a call on our freephone number 0800 954 0051 to see what we can do for you!
