Porsche 911 Carrera
The Carrera is one of a number of models of the Porsche 911, and the Porsche 911 Carrera itself comes in a variety of formats.
Some commentators would say that the Porsche 911 Carrera has not changed much over the years, however the changes have been more gradual but more evolutionary than some re-designs of other cars.
The Porsche 911 Carrera and Porsche 911 Carrera S have undergone restyling to make them more dynamic, says Porsche. Both models now have new headlights with extra illumination in the front section, bigger bumpers and wheel-arches and new door mirrors. The rear spoiler is more aerodynamic.
he Porsche 911 Carrera now comes with two engine sizes. This is the first time since 1977 that Porsche has done this. The two sizes are 3.6 litre for the Porsche 911 Carrera and 3.8 litre for the Porsche 911 Carrera S.
Some basic facts about the Porsche 911 Carrera are: it’s a coupé, standard colour is speed yellow (hence the nickname ‘Yellow Peril’), does 0 to 62 mph in 5 seconds, with a top speed of 177 mph. It comes with a 6-speed manual gear box and unleaded petrol fuel.
Insurance Group is 20.
Engine: 3,614cc, flat-six cylinders, 24 valves, 345bhp at 6,500rpm, 288lb ft at 4,400rpm
Transmission: Six-speed gearbox (seven-speed PDK optional), rear engine, rear-wheel drive
Performance: 180mph, 0-62 in 4.9sec, 29.4mpg official average, CO2225g/km
The standard 3.6-litre Carrera engine now produces 345bhp instead of 325, while the 3.8-litre in the Carrera S makes 385bhp instead of 355.
The Porsche 911 Carrera now has a rack and pinion steering with a variable transmission ratio, this means it has very precise steering.
The Porsche Communication Management System allows drivers to change features of the CD, navigation and telephony systems very easily.
Usually, a 2+2 means that you can’t use the rear seats but this is not the case with the Porsche 911 Carrera – you can and there is a
reasonable amount of legroom.
